For almost my entire playing career I was confused by parts of skill development. I was really good at dribbling the basketball below my knee because that's what I was told to do. But when I watched film I noticed that I rarely, if ever, dribbled below my knee.
The ball actually lived at my hip.
When I shot the basketball I was so focused on getting my feet squared to the rim that often times I was forced to awkwardly tuck my shooting elbow.
I was told to crossover going full speed, but I couldn't figure out how to do that while also dribbling below my knees.
The game of basketball features many concepts that are similar, yet different. In fact, some concepts can appear to look almost identical but are used in completely different situations.
